Alarms Raised over Drug Imports

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Potential difficulties for U. S. health care system are emerging as more prescription drugs and their ingredients are imported.  FDA inspectors visit most foreign drug manufactures only once every eight to twelve years.  The government may not even know the identity of half of the companies that export pharmaceuticals to the U.S.  While 3,000 foreign companies are believed to ship prescription drugs to the U.S., the FDA is scheduled to inspect just 300 of those firms this year.

Federal law requires the roughly 3,300 domestic drug manufacturers to face an FDA inspection once every two years.  Foreign pharmaceutical manufacturers face no such requirement, and the actual number of companies shipping prescription drugs to the U.S. may be as high as 6,700.

As we always have, Dr. Wilcox orders all of our sedation dentistry supplies and medications from the most reputable U.S. supplier available.  In providing the finest in Glendale cosmetic and restorative dentistry, your safety is our upmost concern.

Sedation Update

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

Dr. Wilcox attended a two day seminar this past weekend in Kansas City sponsored by the DOCS organization.  It was an update on the latest in sedation techniques especially in dealing with patients with significant medical conditions.  There was considerable time spent reviewing the latest in drug interactions that must be evaluated prior to sedation dentistry.  The most current thinking in antibiotic premedication and antibiotic therapy for dental infections was also presented.

This is just another example of the several hundred hours a years we spend keeping current with not only the latest in cosmetic dentistry but all aspects of patient comfort and safety.

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

For many Americans going to the dentist is a frightful event, even though dentistry has changed so much in the past years.  Unfortunately, this is not enough for over 100 million people who avoid the dentist due to fear.  Dr. Wilcox has provided sedation dentistry for many years with his hospital training background in general anesthesia.  We have recently updated our techniques of anxiety-free dentistry.  We are experiencing even better results now than previously.   We have also implemented additional monitoring equipment to provide for the ultimate in patient safety.

Dr. Wilcox is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation - D.O.C.S.  They provide advanced education that allows treatment using oral medicaitons to be totally relaxed and absolutely comfortable.  We will have an extensive section coming to the website soon to more fully explain the techniques.  We always welcome your questions or interest in sedation dentistry.
